Since 2006 we have been involved in educating the public, locals and school children about the geology of Lochaber. Some of our proudest achievements have been:

  • Opening of our Visitor Centre on Fort William High Street
  • Installation of 22 interpretation panels around Lochaber
  • Being given the UNESCO stamp
  • Having publications produced: Birth of Ben Nevis book, Geotrail leaflets, Ben Nevis Map and Guide
  • Making of our locally produced, true to scale Ben Nevis chocolates
  • Being the Primary Sponsor of Lochaber’s first Primary STEM Science Fair
  • Teaching the local geology course at the local college
  • Having international visitors and educational groups come on our geology tours
  • Birth of Ben Nevis Film
  • Visits from the Queen and Professor Iain Stewart
  • Being part of the international project Drifting Apart

Currently our focus over the next year (2018/19) is:

  1. To be self sustainable and keep our visitor centre open
  2. Provide outreach education, helping with the curriculum for excellence and STEM learning, in local area
  3. Introduce our Friends of Lochaber Geopark membership
  4. Roll out Geotours
