Fort William Mountain Festival

It has begun! On till Sunday 24th of February, Fort William Mountain Festival has a lot on offer: talks from world-class climbers, nature experts, ultra fell runners, bikers as well as numerous workshops and the Scottish Award for Excellence in Mountain Culture.
We kept our Visitor Centre open yesterday evening to witness the ‘Opening Night Extravangza’ and see our staff run down from the mast on the West of Loch Linnhe as part of the ‘Torch Lit Descent’.
Look at the website for more information on what events are on or pick up a flyer in our Visitor Centre.
We have a stand at the Festival this weekend in the exhibition zone please come along, have a look, and say hello!
Did you know? Ben Nevis was a nunatak (a mountain that was surrounded by a glacier but was not covered by it). The blockfield on the upper part of the mountain was once left exposed during the last Ice Age and had prolonged freeze-thaw action which separated the rocks, leaving the terrain we see today.
