This map commemorates the two-hundredth anniversary of the publication of the first geological map of Britain by William Smith (1769-1839). It depicts modern geological bedrock data in the style of Smith’s early nineteenth century cartography.

Ali Martin is a self-taught artist living and working in Lochaber. She takes her inspiration from the surrounding landscape and wildlife. Her work is varied; from precise ink and watercolour to abstracts in oils and graphic designs rendered digitally. She produced the illustrations you can find throughout the Lochaber Geopark visitor centre. Inspired by her work with the Geopark she has created her own series of Geo-Landscape designs. These cards tell the story of the geological processes which have shaped some of Lochaber’s most iconic views.
