Friends of Lochaber Geopark Events 2019

Friends of Lochaber Geopark Excursions:

Monday 20th May: Ardgour to Rubha na h’Earbha Coast.

Meet at Corran Ferry at 09.30 to share transport for the 09.45 crossing.

Ever wanted to go across to Ardgour and uncover the Great Glen Fault volcanism, or see the unconformable contact between the older metamorphosed moine rock and the younger sediments that lie above?

Our next Geological excursion across to Ardgour down the coast to Rubha na h’Earba by Kilmalieu will be able to fulfil that. There will be a fantastic shoreline walk to see some dyke swarms, including a beautiful viewpoint.

Please bring a packed lunch, stout footwear, waterproofs, cameras, binoculars, walking poles if desired.

Monday 17th June: Cuil Bay to Tiger Rock

We’ll meet at Cuil Bay waterfront at 10 am. GR NM 978 553

This excursion will involve a 6-7km coastal walk on rough, sometimes muddy ground so wear wellies or walking boots.

We’ll see Dalradian metamorphic rocks, fool’s gold, igneous intrusions, a volcanic breccia pipe, finishing at the beautiful Tiger Rock.

Moderate fitness required. Please bring a packed lunch, stout footwear, waterproofs, cameras, binoculars, walking poles if desired
